Speakout is Bizzcomm's signature event. Throughout the year, Bizzcomm works tirelessly to provide events and workshops that show students the importance of good communication in the business world. Speakout gives students the opportunity to see good communication in action. After a very competitive audition process, six final contestants prepare speeches ahead of time and present their final product before the audience. The speakers are evaluated by a panel of five judges on a number of criteria including body language, eye contact, impact on the audience, and vocal variety.

In addition to preparing a speech, the contestants will also be tested on their impromptu speaking skills, which play an equal if not larger role in the world of business communication than preparing presentations. The one who proves to be most effective in both areas of public speaking will receive the Top Orator Award and win two Canucks tickets. There will also be a prize for the Runner Up.

This year's theme is "My Journey..." Though the Business Communications club is a part of the Sauder School of Business, any student from any faculty at UBC is welcome to both compete and attend. Speakout will be held at the Empire Landmark Hotel in downtown in their beautiful Crystal Ballroom and reception food will be provided. The event will take place on Thursday, February 9th at 7pm. Be sure to keep this day free! Speakout 2012 is not something you want to miss.
